Sentencing was handed down Tuesday to an Oak Park man who murdered a DoorDash delivery driver last year.

At a hearing in Oakland County Circuit Court, Judge Jacob Cunningham ordered Terrell Simms, 39, to spend 37.5 – 80 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Mamadou Diallo, 26. Diallo was a Senegalese living in Detroit and working as a DoorDasher when he was killed on March 9, 2025 in Ferndale while on the job.

According to investigators, his death resulted from a reported road rage incident on Woodward Avenue that escalated. Diallo had just picked up an order at a White Castle restaurant when he encountered a speeding vehicle driving erratically which almost hit him. The driver, later identified as Simms, waited for Diallo at a traffic light and then opened fire, investigators said. Diallo was struck in the torso and died at an area hospital.

Simms was convicted at the conclusion of a jury trial last October. Along with the homicide charge, he was found guilty of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of felony firearm. The felony firearm convictions added a mandatory two years onto his sentence while the penalties for the other crimes — 76 months-30 years  — are to be served concurrently. Jail credit of 294 days was acknowledged.
