Very little separated Cranbrook-Kingswood sophomore Sixtine Chamelet’s expectation of her and her team winning a state title and reality at last weekend’s Division 2 finals at Bedford Valley Golf Course.

Chamelet only finished behind Muskegon Reeths-Puffer’s Sophia McCollum, while Cranbrook easily cleared third-place teams Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central and Lowell but came runner-up to Dexter in Battle Creek.

Both were improvements over 2024 when the Cranes came in fourth, and especially for their standout sophomore, who improved upon her state debut that saw her take 13th.

Dexter had three girls post scores in the 70s on Day 2 and won the title with a total of 643. The Cranes finished with a 659, led by Chamelet’s 152, which trailed McCollum by just four strokes. Team-wise, South Lyon and Farmington Hills Mercy weren’t far behind, taking fifth (701) and sixth (718), respectively, while Marian came 10th (752) and Seaholm tied Greenville for 12th (758).

Alongside Chamelet for Cranbrook, Sydney Behnke carded a 165, Brianna Giudici a 171, Josie Vandenhaute a 175 and Alina Yuan a 185.

Back at last month’s county championships, Cranbrook-Kingswood coach John Minnich praised the depth of the team beyond just its best quintet, and on how that drives the players, Chamelet said, “I think we just try to stay focused on our game — and sometimes you look at the scoreboard and see who’s playing well, who’s not — and you just play your game … Playing with people your level or better always helps. They pull you to play well.”

Campbell Conley was the leader for South Lyon, finishing with a 170, followed by Ella Helminia (177), Lily Swegles (178), Elyse Schuich (180) and Alisyn Aschi (193).

Last year as a sophomore Megan Guerrera took 43rd, but she showed her improvement since then and posted a 155 to tie for fourth place individually. Trailing her from the Marlins were Ainsley Henderson (171), Claire Bores (198), London Smith (201), and the duo of Jamesyn Douglas and Sydney Marchak (199).

Marian senior Pippa Dawson nearly cracked the top-10, taking 14th place with a 164. Accompanying her from the Mustangs were Emerson Turkot and Gaby Wenzel, who each shot a 194, Gwen Slapak (200), and the pair of Gabrielle Cruioca and Vivienne Vaupel (208).

Seaholm’s well-rounded group was comprised of Reagan Hoomaian (185), Olyvia Kitzman (188), Eden Bishai (189), Olivia Orcutt (196) and Charlotte Yatooma (209).

Individually, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s senior Hailey Ward shot a 186 to tie for 44th place at the finals, all of which were held Friday and Saturday.
