A motorist killed a pedestrian in San Jose on Tuesday morning, police said.

San Jose Police responded to the area of Story Road and King Road on the city’s east side on reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the car remained on the scene and is cooperating with officials, police said. The crash caused major delays and road closures, prompting people to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

This is the second time this year that a pedestrian has been killed by a motorist in San Jose, according to police records. A previous traffic death on Sunday happened in West San Jose when a driver plowed into a man and fled near South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive, according to the Mercury News.

San Jose saw 41 traffic deaths last year, according to police records, down from 49 deaths in 2024.
