A Fontana man was brought into custody with the help of a K-9 unit after he tried to steal from a woman in Rancho Cucamonga Sunday afternoon, then was found to be in possession of a knife and drugs, authorities said.
Just after 4:45 p.m., deputies were called to the 12000 block of Arrow Route after a man tried to take a purse from a parked car, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
“The victim saw the suspect with her purse and was able to take it back from him,” the SBSD said.
That man then fled on foot, though a K-9 unit named Keva led deputies to him a short distance away.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shared this image of drugs and a knife seized after a purse theft on Jan. 25, 2026.
That man, identified as Andrew Jesus Flores, 25, was in possession of the following items, the SBSD said.
A knife with a 3.5-inch fixed blade
Four bundles of suspected methamphetamine wrapped inside of latex gloves
Five bundles of suspected heroin wrapped inside of plastic
Flores was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on charges of drug possession, drug possession for sale, carrying a dagger and petty theft with two prior convictions.
