CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) — The original 4th Street Antique Mall on Polaski Avenue in Old Town Clovis is now boarded up after a thief smashed the front door and got away with gold, silver, and costume jewelry.
“It’s sad, she works hard. She works hard to build up a business here, we don’t need this,” says Mel Mason, Clovis Resident.
Lynn Reinhardt and his friends sit outside the shop every morning to chat and drink coffee. When he arrived early on Monday, he saw the aftermath.
“I came around the corner and saw a big hole like someone broke in. I’m just wondering what’s going on here. The glass was all over the place. It was a mess, really,” says Reinhardt.
At this point, it’s unclear the value of the jewelry stolen.
Clovis Police are now searching for the suspect, who they say targeted the shop and got away on an e-bike.
“We began yesterday by flooding the area, searching for all of the potential leads yesterday. Now, we’re going to be following up with hopefully some surveillance video from the victim,” says Sgt. Abby Padgett, Clovis Police Department.
As they looked for evidence, police say the thief left behind the crowbar used in the burglary.
“With a crowbar, we’re able to process that for late fingerprints, and we’re continuing to do that now,” says Sgt. Padgett.
As Clovis continues to grow, locals say Old Town has kept its hometown feel, with antique shops, like this one, as integral staples.
“The town has grown so much. This is turned into a great place for people to vacation. They come here they look to shop. There’s a nice hotel, nice restaurants, and antique shops. What more can you ask for?” says Mason
Police say like other areas, Old Town continues to see these types of crimes, but in Old Town, they often bring people together.
“We value all of our business members and community members, but Old Town definitely has a special place in our heart as it is the heart of the community,” says Sgt. Padgett.
Clovis Police are asking anyone with any information on this burglary to contact them or Valley Crime Stoppers, especially if you have access to any surveillance video in the area.
