(FOX40.COM) — The last leaf pickup of the season is coming soon, Sacramento city officials say.
The sixth round of “leaf season” collections is underway, part of an annual city service that runs from November through January. But the final round of collections will begin on Sunday, Feb. 1 — and all leaf piles must be on the street before that time.
Sacramento residents pile up leaves and other debris in the street during leaf season, where they are picked up by the city’s iconic claw-equipped tractors. Throughout the entire year, though, leaf pickup is done through standard weekly container collection.
“Over 60 million pounds of yard waste is collected during a typical leaf season, mostly in curbside containers,” Jesa David, spokesperson for the Recycling and Solid Waste Division, said in a news release. “The more material we can collect in containers, the more quickly our claw crews can finish their rounds.”
There are a few rules for leaf season collection:
Piles must be no larger than four feet by four feet by nine feet — no more than five cubic yards
Limbs must be three or fewer feet long and four or fewer inches in diameter
Piles should be at least six feet away from any cars or obstructions, and away from the curb or bike lane
Christmas trees — without ornaments — are accepted
