The Los Angeles County Fire Department is responding to a reported explosion and fire at a home in Bell Gardens Tuesday evening.

The blast was reported a few minutes after 6 p.m. in the 6500 block of Purdy Avenue, the agency said.

On social media, the Fire Department characterized it as a two-story home on fire.

The Bell Gardens Police Department confirmed that 59 firefighters battled a blaze there, though no explosion was mentioned in their social media post.

Footage shared to the Citizen app showed a large fire.

Two people were hurt and taken to local hospitals, though their conditions and identities haven’t been disclosed.

The public is encouraged to avoid the area.
