BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Honor Flight has sent about 3,000 veterans to Washington, D.C., since its inception.

Lili Marsh and Anthony Cortez, with Honor Flight Kern County, joined 17 News at Noon to discuss what the nonprofit needs.

“When I went on my first flight, Honor Flight 47, I went as a veteran,” said Cortez. “When I came back it just kindled the fire in me, that I lost when I got out of the military. I wanted to start a breakfast and that’s what I did.”

An upcoming flight for vets, scheduled for April 20, might not be full. Organizers are asking those who might know of a veteran willing to participate, to reach out.

Honor Flight sponsors are needed for a monthly Honor Flight breakfast in Delano, according to Cortez.
