A San Francisco police officer was injured Tuesday after he was struck by a motorist who fled when police tried to stop him in Oakland, police said.

The incident happened at about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of 47th Street in East Oakland as officers attempted to stop a vehicle connected to a wanted suspect, police said.

As officers tried to detain the suspect, the driver attempted to flee and struck an SFPD officer, causing injuries, police said. The suspect vehicle was later pursued by Oakland police, SFPD said.

Officials said the suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot to attempt to carjack another car before eventually being taken into custody by Oakland police. The injured officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact SFPD.
