LONG BEACH, CA — A woman crossing Pacific Coast Highway died after being hit by a pickup truck in Long Beach on Tuesday, police say.
Officers responded to a report of a collision with a vehicle and a pedestrian near Pacific Coast Highway and Gundry Avenue shortly before 6 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department said.
The driver tried to help the injured woman until rescuers with the Long Beach Fire Department arrived, police said.
Rescuers took the woman to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to police.
Initial investigation shows that a 2024 Chevy Colorado was driving west on Pacific Coast Highway when it hit the woman, “who was walking north across Pacific Coast Highway, outside of a marked crosswalk,” police said.
“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not believed to have contributed to the crash, according to police.
Officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will identify the woman, police said.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Collision Investigation Detective Dougherty at 562-570-7358.
