Massive 43-car pileup along California highway leaves several in hospital, CHP says

Several people are in the hospital after a crash where 43 cars piled up along a highway amid foggy conditions, the California Highway Patrol Bakersfield division said.CHP got multiple reports around 8:07 a.m. Tuesday of a crash blocking all lanes of eastbound Highway 58, east of Tower Line Road in the Arvin area of Kern County. Officers who arrived at the scene issued what is called a mass-casualty/trauma response and requested additional resources.Investigators believe weather was a factor as witnesses reported extremely dense fog, with visibility estimated between 50-60 feet, CHP said. Medical personnel sent nine people to local hospitals, with their injuries ranging from minor to major.Highway 58 was closed through the late evening hours to investigate the crash and clear the wreckage.Details were not released on whether drugs or alcohol were also a factor.See news happening?
