BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department released video of an officer-involved shooting that shows a suspect who fled with a gun.

The incident happened Dec. 29 at about 2:15 a.m., on Latina Drive.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Mohawk Street and Siena Lane. The vehicle stopped on Latina Drive and Pisa Way and one of the occupants, later identified as Fabian Lopez, fled the vehicle eastbound on foot.

An officer with BPD then pursued Lopez, who pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the man.

The officer involved was later identified as Pedro Sarabia, who is on paid administrative leave.

In the video, you can see the officer exit his vehicle and chase Lopez. He resists arrest and then points a firearm at Sarabia.

Ultimately, medical aid was administered to Lopez. He remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition. When he is released from the hospital he will be arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer and firearm related charges.
