FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A driver was arrested for DUI after a man was fatally hit by a car on Highway 99 in Fresno.
CHP Fresno says officers first received calls around 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of a car sitting in the fast lane on the SR-99 to SR-180 eastbound transition, with a man running in and out of traffic.
CHP arrived and found a Toyota Prius with the driver’s door open and the engine still running.
There were no signs of a crash or damage to the car, and it was moved out of the way.
About 35 minutes later, officers received 911 calls saying a man was running in and out of traffic on Highway 99 near Fresno Street.

Three minutes later, more calls came in that the man had been hit by a car near Belmont Avenue.
Initial investigations showed that a 37-year-old man was walking in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 when he was hit by a 22-year-old male driver in a Subaru Impreza.
Officers arrived and found the man, identified as Andrew Magana of Fresno, lying in the road.
Magana was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was sent to the hospital with moderate injuries and was arrested for DUI.
It’s unknown if Magana was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
