The Sacramento International Airport’s $1.4 billion overhaul — largely focused on enlarging Terminal B — has finished 40% of the construction on a gargantuan, $390 million parking garage.
The Sacramento County Department of Airports recently provided a status report on the airport project, “SMForward,” to the Board of Supervisors. That document shows a schedule for some construction:
The new six-story Terminal B parking garage with 5,500 spots is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
Construction on a $140 million pedestrian walkway to the B gates is halfway done and is expected to wrap up in the middle of 2026.
Concourse B — which connects to the gates — will also be expanded, to the tune of $390 million more. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026 and expected to last two and a half years.
The county will also begin construction on a $25 million Terminal A exit road in the middle of next year.

Other elements of the airport expansion project are still in the planning phases. The county has set a $390 million budget for a new airport car rental facility. Earlier this month, the county announced a giant art installation on the outside of the parking garage that will depict vegetables and fruits. That piece has a budget of $1.75 million.
In total, Sacramento County has now budgeted $1.4 billion for various elements of the airport expansion, including about $70,000 per spot at the parking garage. The last major overhaul of the airport, nicknamed the “Big Build,” finished construction in 2011. That overhaul replaced the previous terminal and significantly upgraded passenger facilities. The Sacramento Bee reported at the time that the Big Build cost $1.1 billion.
