FRESNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women’s tennis fell 6-1 against Fresno State in the season opener at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on Wednesday.  The Broncos made a return trip to Fresno after their originally scheduled match on Saturday was postponed due to fog and mist.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:


Fresno State (3-0) won the first two doubles matches to secure the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches including the first four to go up 5-0 before Daniella Dimitrova picked up the lone point for the Broncos.  
The Bulldogs took the doubles matches on courts two and three both by a 6-4 score.  Sofia Pizzoni and Eliza Dunbar defeated Dimitrova and Madhu Satishbabu to clinch the doubles point.  
In singles, Paulina Montiel, Andjela Lopicic and Klara Vukicevic each came up on top in straight sets to clinch the match.  Vukicevic’s clincher came against Juliette Krumholz 6-3, 6-3 on court six to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 on the team scoreboard.  
Santa Clara (0-1) got a point on Dimitrova’s three set victory over Pizzoni 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) atop the lineup.

The Broncos travel to Boise, Idaho for a pair of matches this weekend.  They face Montana State in a neutral site match on Saturday followed by a match against Boise State on Sunday.
