This past offseason, the San Francisco 49ers decided to let linebacker Dre Greenlaw leave in free agency, and he signed a three-year, $31.5 million deal to join the Denver Broncos.

Things haven’t been ideal for Greenlaw so far this season, as he missed the first six weeks of the season due a quad injury that he suffered in training camp. Then, we he returned to the field on Sunday against the New York Giants he was involved in altercation with a referee that has led to his suspension by the NFL.

After the Broncos mounted an incredible comeback to beat the New York Giants, Greenlaw reportedly chased down NFL referree Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field. The league prohibits abusive, threatening or insulting language directed at officials, which is why the league has suspended the linebacker for one game.

This is unacceptable behavior, but it’s not entirely unexpected, as Greenlaw frequently crossed the line during his time with San Francisco. Now, it’s clear that the league is not tolerating it from the linebacker.
