The Fresno City Softball team defeated Bakersfield 8-0 in their season opener on Jan. 23 at the Fresno City College Softball Field, finishing the game with a walk-off home run by catcher Amara Klein.
Fresh off her walk-off 3-run home run, Klein felt great about their season opener. “We have so much further to go, and this team is just gonna flourish,”
The Rams started the game with a double play by Shortstop Alexis Alvarado, following two quick outs. Left Fielder Makena Makekau followed that up with an RBI double, sending Alvarado to home base. Rams led 1-0 at the bottom of the inning.

Then, after holding off Bakersfield with bases loaded at the top of the second, the Rams go up 5-0 after a runner is batted in by first base player Tabitha Andrews and a 3-run home run by Utility Player Sydney Yep. A Utility Player is someone good at multiple positions on a team.
The game stagnated until the bottom of the 5th when Catcher Klein hit to left field, sending home outfielder Maya-Jade Taylor and second base player Alexis Lopez and making the score 8-0 where the game would come to a finish for the Rams.
FCC Softball had a successful start to the season, and their next game is away at Bakersfield on Jan. 30.
