The month is coming to a close, and lots of fun things are happening this weekend.

The most famous street artist ever, BANKSY, won’t be in town (well, nobody really knows who he is), but his art work will be. It’s at the DEL MAR FAIRGROUNDS. Over 200 pieces will be on display.

Irish eyes are smiling on ya, if you head to the CELEBRATION OF IRELAND, at the Hall of Nations in BALBOA PARK. There will be music, poetry, and more.

And comedian and actor ANDREW SANTINO at Harrah’s Resort in VALLEY CENTER.

For tribute bands, Stayin’ Alive, a tribute to the BEE GEES, will be at the Magnolia in EL CAJON.

We’ve all heard of pub crawls, but have you ever heard of a food crawl? There’s the PIZZA WARS GASLAMP FOOD CRAWL in the Gaslamp Quarter.

In sports, it’s “Star Wars Night” at the SAN DIEGO GULLS game against Ontario at Pechanga Arena.

If you want to hear the AZTECS hoop it up in Utah, you can listen on San Diego Sports 760.

For live hoops, the CLIPPERS have another home game, with the first 1,000 fans getting a Bill Walton bobblehead.

For you classy folks, the SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY will be rockin’ Jacob’s Music Center DOWNTOWN, playing Mahler’s Symphony No. 7.

And the LA JOLLA SYMPHONY & CHORUS will be performing at UCSD. Those shows are on Saturday and Sunday.

If you’re looking for fun and feelin’ groovy, the SIMON & GARFUNKEL STORYwill be performed at the Balboa Theatre DOWNTOWN. This plays all weekend long.

SUNDAY –

You can finish your weekend with more sports, as the SAN DIEGO SOCKERS will be kickin’ the Tacoma Stars around Frontwave Arena in OCEANSIDE. For anyone who thinks soccer is boring, you haven’t seen indoor soccer.

Local music legend GREGORY PAGE will be singing the songs of Leon Redbone at the Brooks Theatre in OCEANSIDE.

Michael J Fox joins Harrison Ford and Jason Segel in a guest role on SHRINKING, Season 3 on Apple TV.

Break out the smelling salts – BRIDGERTON is back with Season 4 on Netflix.

The 68th Annual GRAMMY AWARDS hosted by Trevor Noah, will be on CBS on Sunday.

AT THE MOVIES…

MELANIA

They didn’t screen this documentary for the critics, but I’m guessing – those on the left will hate it, those on the right will like it.

SHELTER

This isn’t the worst Jason Statham movie I’ve ever seen, but…it’s also a Statham movie. That means, it’s a dopey story, but you get to watch him beat up and shoot lots of bad guys. The head bad guy is played by the always reliable Bill Nighy. There’s a little girl that Statham is trying to keep alive. He plays an agent that was double-crossed and has to hide in an abandoned lighthouse. He’s discovered, goes on the run, and hijinks ensue! There’s a really cute dog in it. Wanna guess what happens to him? This has the best scene of a fork stabbing a face since “Weapons” last year. The shaky camera gets annoying, as does the little girl, who stops being cute early on. If you need your fix of a goofy action picture, this should fit the bill for ya. 1 ½ stars out of 5.

SEND HELP

The movie poster said “From the director of Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell.” Maybe I’m old, but that doesn’t sound like a great selling point (that director is Sam Raimi). But he gave us a two-hander that’s a dark comedy, with a few scares, and lots of gore. The movie starts with Rachel McAdams going into her job, with Blondie’s “Rip Her to Shreds” playing. I’m already liking things. But they made her such a bizarre, nerdy character at the office, you almost realize why the bosses are passing her up on a big promotion. When they all fly out for a big deal that’s closing, the plane crashes. The movie then becomes a mix of “Blue Lagoon” meets “Misery” (with a bit of “Cast Away”). That boss (Dylan O’Brien) that treated her so bad, now has to rely on her to survive. The first half was brilliant, but the second half just goes too over the top. It’s hard to buy some of the things the characters are doing, and they do something with one of the characters that was a real mistake (I can’t explain without giving things away). Since 89% of movies have a vomit scene, this has one. And it’s hysterical. They stole a great scene from “Hard Candy” (Ellen Page), in which she’s getting revenge on a child molester. And it’s done nicely here. Danny Elfman did the score, and it ends with another perfect Blondie tune. People are going to have fun with this movie. 3 stars out of 5.
