A woman accused of fleeing to Mexico after the gruesome murder of her boyfriend has been arrested and returned to Orange County to face charges.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Alyssa Marie Lira killed her 55-year-old boyfriend. Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal was found decapitated inside Lira’s Anaheim home back in August.

After months of investigating, Lira was taken into custody in Mexico on Jan. 22, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. She has been charged with one count of felony murder and one felony enhancement of personally using a weapon.

Lira is due in court for her arraignment on Feb. 13. She is being held at the Orange County Jail without bail.

If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
