Two men were charged in connection with a triple homicide at an East Oakland market this month, Alameda County prosecutors announced Thursday.
The suspects, 40-year-old Darrell Tatmon and 37-year-old Angelo Lemelle Pharr, both face multiple felony gun charges and only Tatmon is charged with three counts of murder.
“The gunning down of three innocent men – including two brothers – at a neighborhood grocery store sent a shock wave that was felt through our community,” District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said in a statement.
Court records identified the victims as Luis Gomez, Kevin Valdez Gomez and Miguel Ramirez.
KTVU reported that authorities believed the shooting at 85th Avenue and International Boulevard was the result of a botched marijuana deal. The outlet also stated that Ramirez was believed to be a bystander at the store who was caught in the crossfire.
Tatmon is charged with three counts of murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He additionally faces enhancements for causing multiple murders, the use of a gun and committing an offense while out on bail or released on his own recognizance, prosecutors said in a statement.
Prosecutors charged Pharr with assault with a semiautomatic gun and possession of a firearm by a felon, officials said. If convicted on all charges, Tatmon could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, and Pharr could be sentenced to up to 25 years to life, prosecutors said.
