The Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus system, a key transit service connecting the Disneyland Resort with more than 80 nearby hotels and attractions, is being shut down after decades of operation due to ongoing financial deficits.
The Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN), which operates the ART bus system and serves millions of riders each year in and around the Disneyland Resort area, will cease operations after March 2026, officials said on Thursday, January 29.
ATN’s governing board, consisting largely of hoteliers and related parties, voted unanimously to “conduct an orderly wind-down,” Fred Whitaker, the board’s legal counsel, said in a closed session meeting on Thursday. Network service is scheduled to end on March 31, 2026.
According to a report from the Orange County Register, despite support from hotels and rider fares, ATN has faced structural deficits for years, with labor costs accounting for over 70% of its operating costs.
At the same time, annual funding from hotels has remained capped at a nominally low percentage; thus, hotel contributions have been insufficient to cover these rising expenses.
Last year, a funding request from ATN to the Anaheim Tourism Improvement District described a monthly shortfall of $730,000.
An official announcement on the ART website reads as follows:
For nearly three decades, the Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN) has supported mobility in the Anaheim Resort—serving residents, employees, and millions of visitors.
After an extended evaluation of our current and future financial position and exhausting all options, ATN will begin an orderly wind-down of operations, with conclusion of service on March 31, 2026. This transition will be implemented in a manner to allow for coordination and transparency as services are responsibly concluded.
The ATN Board of Directors appreciates the community’s continued support of the service through the conclusion of operation.
The City of Anaheim is reportedly looking into options to keep locations within this system connected following ART’s shutdown, but a plan for replacement service has not yet been announced.
