FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno Unified School District Officials are saying all schools will remain open on Friday, despite circulating reports of a potential “National Shutdown.”

The district emphasized that school sites are prepared to support student expression on campus, providing guidance, resources, and opportunities for respectful dialogue within a safe environment.

“We respect our students’ voices and their right to express themselves on issues that matter to them,” the district said in a statement.” “At the same time, student safety remains our highest priority, and we have concerns about students participating in off-campus activities during the school day.”

Fresno Unified reminded families that absences related to off-campus participation during school hours will be considered unexcused.

Officials encouraged parents and guardians to discuss the importance of staying on campus and prioritizing student safety.

The district thanked families for their partnership in supporting students and maintaining a safe learning environment.

Organizers behind “National Shutdown” are calling for no school, work and or shopping.

In a statement posted to their website they say it’s time for the country to stand together in a nationwide shutdown.

The entire country is shocked and outraged at the brutal killings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Silverio Villegas González, and Keith Porter Jr. by federal agents. While Trump and other right wing politicians are slandering them as “terrorists”, the video evidence makes it clear beyond all doubt: they were gunned down in broad daylight simply for exercising their First Amendment right to protest mass deportation. Every day, ICE, Border Patrol and other enforcers of Trump’s racist agenda are going into our communities to kidnap our neighbors and sow fear. It is time for us to all stand up together in a nationwide shutdown and say enough is enough!
