TEMPE, Ariz. – San Diego Men’s Tennis grad student Stian Klaassen represented the Toreros at the ITA Southwest Regionals over the weekend, falling in the round of 32 of the main draw.
Klaassen, a 6.6 World Tennis Number (WTN) player, was seeded in the main draw, skipping the qualifying stages. He showed why with his dominant first round win in which he dropped only one game, a 6-1, 6-0 victory over GCU’s Brice Patoux Friday.
The Zeist, Netherlands native faced a tougher opponent in the second round, however, getting knocked off by 7.17 WTN Filip Gustafsson of Arizona. After claiming a first 6-3 first set, Klaassen dropped the second and third, 2-6, 4-6 to drop out in the second round of the tournament.

More Toreros will be back in action on the home courts of the Hogan Tennis Center for the third home event this fall, hosting the Haggedorn Hidden Duals, running from Halloween until Sunday, Nov. 2.
