FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Cassidy Gonzalez has been sentenced to 19 years and 4 months to life in prison for the murder of Jade Dreith. It marks Fresno County’s first fentanyl murder conviction and sentencing.
The punishment comes nearly a year after her trial.
In March 2025, a jury convicted Gonzalez of killing Dreith by knowingly selling her a deadly dose of fentanyl hours before she died.
At trial, prosecutors presented their evidence for days, but the defense’s case lasted just four minutes and 41 seconds.
Gonzalez later claimed her trial attorney was ineffective, which led to the sentencing delay while a court-ordered review was conducted of Gonzalez’s attorney. It found no such ineffectiveness.
Friday’s sentencing included impassioned and at times tense comments from Dreith’s family, Gonzalez’s supporters, and the defendant herself.
