Poetry took center stage in Fresno County as Evy Singh, a Central High School sophomore, stepped into the spotlight as the county’s first-ever Youth Poet Laureate—and shared her story with a broader audience during a visit to KMJ’s Philip Teresi Show.
Singh’s selection marks the official launch of the Fresno County Youth Poet Laureate Program, a new initiative led by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher, that elevates student voices through poetry, leadership, and civic engagement. The program is affiliated with the National Youth Poet Laureate movement and was developed over a two‑year period to highlight the lived experiences of young people across the Central Valley.
Chosen from a group of finalists during a public event in downtown Fresno, Singh now serves as a youth ambassador for the arts, representing Fresno County at community events and encouraging other students to share their stories through creative expression.
