The nationwide shutdown for Immigration Control Enforcement (ICE) brought Fresno protesters to the streets on the Shaw Avenue overpass off Highway 41, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 30.
The general strike for ICE encouraged many civilians to skip work, school and limit shopping for the day in protest.
Signs and displays during the protest also called for the freedom of Palestine, justice for Renee Good, Alex Pretti and costs of inflation.
“I think I’m just here to do my part and speak up for those who can’t,” Madai V, a Fresno State student protester said holding up a “Fuck Ice” sign.
V called off work and school to come out to the protest.

“I’m protesting for a better America, for a place that treats everybody, women, minorities, everyone, as someone of value,” protester Alma Ferreyra said.
Another protester, Jayne Bolth, said she shows up on the bridge every Thursday to protest. She called it the “Bridge Per Day” and said there’s multiple locations where the protests take place.
”We need a change, and it’s not gonna come from up above, people have to stand together and stand against this,” Bolth said, holding a sign condemning the misuse of tax money.

“I’m protesting against the facism, the misogyny and the racism and all the ugly stuff that’s going on,” Ferreyra said.
