CHICO, Calif. – The Chico Police Department on Friday announced the arrest of a Oroville juvenile who was involved in the robbery of a commercial business in Chico.

Authorities say at around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, officers from the Chico Police Department responded to a commercial business on the 2500 block of Notre Dame Boulevard in Chico after receiving a report of a robbery.

According to Chico Police, the victim of the robbery told officers that an unidentified male had entered the business and requested merchandise from behind the counter.

The suspect then demanded money from the register, indicating that he had a gun. The male left the store with the unpaid merchandise and money from the register.

Despite a thorough search and review of surveillance footage from the surrounding area, the suspect and vehicle was not located by officers. The case was forwarded to detectives for additional investigation.

Authorities say that as the investigation progressed, detectives were able to identify a license plate from the suspect’s vehicle, leading them to narrow down a possible suspect.

With the help of the Oroville Police Department, Chico Police collected evidence identifying the suspect as a juvenile who lived in Oroville. Chico Police says that a BOLO alert was issued to local law enforcement agencies.

On Thursday, a deputy from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspect’s vehicle in South Oroville in the Palermo area. Authorities say that deputies, along with officers from the California Highway Patrol, performed a felony traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old juvenile, was a match for the suspect in the robbery and was taken into custody.
