The San Jose Sharks open up another valuable roster spot as they placed defenseman Vincent Iorio on NHL Waivers.

Iorio hasn’t played since Jan. 15 against the Vegas Golden Knights. Iorio is on waivers for the second time this season. Earlier this season, the Washington Capitals placed the 23-year-old on waivers, and the Sharks claimed him. In 21 games this season, Iorio has three assists.

The San Jose Sharks could be getting some players back from injury. Before this move, the Sharks had 22 out of a possible 23 players on their active roster. If Iorio clears waivers or gets claimed, the Sharks will have two open spots. Shakir Mukhamdullin, Philipp Kurashev, and Kiefer Sherwood have all been skating and could return tomorrow against the Calgary Flames.

While Ryan Warsofsky wasn’t able to confirm any other roster moves at practice today, the Sharks coach said Sherwood isn’t ruled out.

Sherwood hasn’t played a game with the San Jose Sharks since he was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks. Kurashev could return after not playing since Dec. 15 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mukhamadullin has been out for the past 11 games for the Sharks due to an upper-body injury.
