The pursuit of a murder suspect shut down the 405 off-ramp in the Hawthorne area Saturday afternoon.
According to authorities, the suspect died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
A Sigalert has been issued for the area near the 405 Freeway off-ramp at Imperial Highway near the 105 interchange.
Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a shooting on the 400 block of Walker Ave in Camarillo where they found a man with gunshot wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies were able to track down the suspect’s vehicle and tried to pull him over but he got onto the southbound 101 freeway.
The California Highway Patrol was preparing to take over the pursuit, but lost visuals as the suspect was driving over 100 miles per hour, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Los Angeles Police Department then picked up the pursuit on the southbound 405 Freeway.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect eventually yielded and sometime after stopping, took his own life while inside the vehicle.
The area remains shut down and there is no estimated time of reopening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
