MADISON (WKOW) — A surprise visitor attended the Badgers’ basketball game Saturday: California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Wisconsin guard Jack Janicki posted a photo with Newsom in the Badgers locker room on his Instagram story.
A UW Athletics spokesman explained why Newsom was at the game, in a text message sent to 27 News: “Gavin Newsom’s wife (Jennifer) is the daughter of Ken Siebel, Badger alum and today’s honorary captain. So the Siebel family was in town to support Ken.”
Siebel is a 2006 UW Hall of Fame inductee, and was the team MVP in 1961, 1962, and 1963. Siebel led a 1962 upset against No. 1 Ohio State by shutting down future NBA Hall of Famer John Havlicek.
UW Athletic Hall of Famer Ken Siebel returned to Madison as the honorary captain at the Badgers basketball game against Ohio State.
The Badgers won Saturday’s game 92-82.
