IRVINE, Calif. — The Western Oregon softball team fell 6–5 in eight innings to San Francisco State on Sunday morning at the CUI Kickoff Classic, despite Madelynne Hommel going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
WOU (1–4) took a 5–3 lead into the bottom of the seventh after Lexi Baumgartner launched a three-run home run in the top of the inning, giving the Wolves their first lead of the game.
San Francisco State (3–2) answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extras, then walked it off in the eighth.
Hommel finished 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a stolen base, accounting for the Wolves’ first two runs. Baumgartner drove in three with her seventh-inning homer.
Western Oregon plays Thursday against Cal Poly Humboldt.
