Sacramento crews battle fire at abandoned Bank of America
LATEST MELANIE. WE SEE THAT YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE BUILDING. NOW. YEAH. THROUGHOUT THE MORNING, WE’VE BEEN SHOWING YOU THE BUILDING THAT’S BEEN ON FIRE. BUT I ALSO WANTED TO TAKE A QUICK SECOND TO SHOW YOU THIS. THIS IS HOW CLOSE THE FIRE WAS TO SOME HOMES THAT ARE NEARBY. BUT WHAT IS HELPFUL IN ALL OF THIS, ACCORDING TO SACRAMENTO FIRE, IS THAT THERE’S AN ALLEYWAY SEPARATING THE BUILDING THAT’S ON FIRE AND THE HOMES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD NEXT TO THE BUILDING THAT’S ON FIRE. SO ACCORDING TO SACRAMENTO FIRE, THEY HAVE CREWS STATIONED IN BETWEEN THE STRUCTURE AND THE HOMES TRYING TO MAKE SURE THE EMBERS THAT WERE CAST FROM THE BUILDING ITSELF, THAT WAS ON FIRE AND DID NOT LAND ON THOSE HOMES. SO LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME VIDEO OF HOW THINGS LOOK. WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED HERE, FIREFIGHTERS GETTING THE CALL ON THIS ONE SHORTLY AFTER 420 THIS MORNING, THEY CAME TO THIS BUILDING, REALIZED THEY HAD HEAVY FIRE CONDITIONS, AND IT WOULDN’T EVEN BE SAFE TO SEND FIRE CREWS ON THE INSIDE. SO EVER SINCE THEY ARRIVED, THEY’VE BEEN DOUSING THIS THING NONSTOP FROM ABOVE, FROM THE GROUND WITH ALL KINDS OF WATER, TRYING TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES. BUT IT HAS BEEN STUBBORN. THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. WE HAVE SEEN FLAMES COMING FROM THE ROOF OF THIS STRUCTURE. AND NOW IF YOU POP BACK OUT HERE TO US LIVE, YOU CAN SEE JUST HOW MUCH SMOKE IS COMING FROM THE BUILDING THAT WAS ON FIRE THIS MORNING. A LOT OF SMOKE. NOW AT THIS STAGE IN THE GAME, BUT STILL MUCH MORE WORK TO BE DONE. FIRE CREWS DO HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE FLAMES ARE OUT BEFORE THEY CAN GET THERE. INVESTIGATORS ON THE INSIDE TO DO THEIR WORK TO FIGURE OUT HOW THIS FIRE STARTED. AT THIS POINT, SACRAMENTO FIRE SAYS THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANY VICTIMS, BUT THEY WERE NOT. AS I HAVE MENTIONED THROUGHOUT THE MORNING, ABLE TO SEND ANY FIRE CREW MEMBERS INSIDE BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO DANGEROUS FOR FIRE CREWS TO GO IN. AND THEY SAY THE SURVIVABILITY OF A FIRE OF THIS MAGNITUDE WOULD HAVE BEEN NIL. THEY WOULD NOT HAVE FOUND ANYBODY ABLE TO SURVIVE THE FIRE CONDITIONS THAT WE SAW THROUGHOUT THE MORNING ON THIS. SO IF YOUR MORNING COMMUTE TAKES YOU IN THIS DIRECTION, DEL PASO BOULEVARD, BEST TO AVOID THE AREA AS IT IS ALL BLOCKED OFF RIGHT NOW WITH FIREFIGHTING APPARATUS. AND THEN HOSES. ALSO FIRE CREWS TELLING US THAT THESE LADDER TRUCKS ARE PUTTING OUT A THOUSAND GALLONS OF WATER PER MINUTE JUST TRYING TO GET OUT THE FLAMES. AND THEY HAVE BEEN GOING SINCE ABOUT 430 THIS MORNING, REPORTING LIVE IN OLD NORTH SACRAMENTO MELANIE WINGO KCRA THREE NEWS. A LO
Sacramento fire crews extinguished a large fire that sparked Monday morning at an abandoned building in the Old North Sacramento area. Capt.
