The city clerk’s office will host a candidate workshop next week for Long Beach residents interested in running for local offices during the upcoming election.

The candidate workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 9, in person at City Hall, 411 W. Ocean Blvd., and online via Zoom.

The workshop is open to anyone considering running for one of the elected positions up for grabs during the June 2 primary, including mayor, city attorney, city auditor and city prosecutor. City Council Districts 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will also have races.

Workshop participants will receive an overview of the election process, including nomination and candidate statement guidelines, campaign regulations, campaign finance, ethics, and local election laws, according to a press release.

The workshop also marks the opening of the nomination period, which will begin on Feb. 9, and will remain open until 5 p.m. March 6. Nomination packets will be available after the workshop for candidates ready to begin the filing process, officials said.

The city clerk’s office is committed to ensuring fair, transparent and accessible elections, officials said. This workshop is designed to support prospective candidates, and provide the tools and information needed to participate in the local democratic process.

Pre-registration is not required to attend. If interpretation services for non-English speakers or special accommodations, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, are needed, residents can request them by calling the city clerk’s office at 562-570-6101 at least 72 business hours before the workshop.

The candidate handbook will be available at the end of the workshop. You can also get it on the city clerk’s webpage, longbeach.gov/cityclerk.
