One person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out a home in Chula Vista on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Crews from Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach and city of San Diego fire departments responded to the blaze on Woodlawn Avenue that was reported just before 2:30 p.m.
SkyRanger 7 was above the scene, showing more than a dozen firefighters and white smoke coming out of the roof of the house. A portion of the backyard, which appeared to have piles of personal belongings, was charred by 3 p.m.
The fire was knocked down in about 20-30 minutes and after it had extended into a second home, according to Chula Vista Fire Department spokesperson Chris Kastelic.
Firefighters helped four people who were unable to exit the backyard, Kastelic said. CVFD did not provide details about the condition of the person who was taken to a hospital. No firefighters were injured.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
Woodlawn Avenue was expected to be closed for a couple hours, officials said.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information arrives.
