Birmingham police arrest man charged with murder in California

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police arrested a man Thursday who is charged in connection to a California homicide that occurred earlier in January.

The Birmingham Police Department stated that officers found and arrested James Lawrence Petri, 43, in the 2600 block of Bush Boulevard. Petri is charged with murder, murder for financial or other consideration and criminal conspiracy to commit murder in relation to a Jan. 13 homicide in the The Arbors at California Oaks apartment complex.

16-year-old killed in Bessemer shooting identified

The apartment complex is located in Murietta, California. After he was arrested, Petri was taken to the Jefferson County Jail and is expected to be extradited to California.
