CHICAGO — The San Jose Sharks are 1-1-1 on their five-game road trip, but have lost two straight, prompting line changes.

After the Sharks scratched Pavol Regenda and Timothy Liljegren against the Calgary Flames on Saturday, both players will return to the lineup. On Tuesday, forward Zack Ostapchuk and defenseman John Klingberg will be healthy scratches.

“Obviously, [we] wanna get Lily back in there. I think Klingy does some good things with the puck, but when we struggle to execute and break out pucks, we can’t transition our game,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky explained.

“Chucky will come out as well. He’s been playing some good hockey. More of a reset for Chucky. He’s been playing a lot of hockey. Asked him to do a lot, and he’s improved a lot since we got him last year. So more of a reset.”

With Klingberg out of the lineup, the Sharks are also adjusting their power-play lines. Dmitry Orlov will move to the top unit, and Liljegren will quarterback the second unit.

Tyler Toffoli will move up to the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. William Eklund will go back with Alexander Wennberg and Collin Graf on the San Jose Sharks’ second line. Be sure to check the Sharks Line Combinations page to stay up-to-date every gameday.

Adam Gaudette, who has scored in three straight games, will slide to Ostapchuk’s fourth-line center role. When asked about why breaking up the highly successful third line, Warsofsky referred to the team’s last two games.

“They were good, but when you lose, you make changes,” Warsofsky said.

Toffoli’s jump to the top line could help the veteran winger find a more consistent scoring touch. Through 53 games this season, the San Jose Sharks winger has 15 goals. Toffoli is on a pace that will see him score fewer than 30 goals in a season for the first time since the 2021-2022 season.

“Yeah, for sure,” Warsofsky said about getting Toffoli going. “It balances out some lines in the bottom there as well.”

Yaroslav Askarov will start in goal for the Sharks, marking his third start in the past four games.
