FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A large group of students from Washington Union High School walked out of class today in protest of ICE.

They started from the school on Elm and American avenues near Easton with a goal of reaching Downtown Fresno.

Their protest comes after a national call to action last Friday.

Students say they wanted to raise awareness about immigration enforcement practices that they do not support.

“I’m a senior and this is my last year and I just want to do something bigger than myself,” said a student participating in the protest.

“I’m an Oaxaqueña and I think that it’s really important that if you stand by your ethnicity and really truly support it, no matter if in good times or bad times, in the bad times, you should be using your voice to support your community,” said sophomore Jareni Solano.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said they checked on the students and told us their protest remained peaceful.
