BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The City of Shafter’s council agenda for Tuesday includes plans to convert a former correctional facility into a new police department.

This project is expected to cost $200,000 and will encompass both short-term and long-term renovations of the former Shafter Modified Community Correctional Facility (MCCF). The facility closed in 2020.
The short-term plans involve creating a temporary administrative office space for the city’s Information Technology (IT) staff, while the long-term plans include a complete remodel of the entire facility.

The City Manager is set to approve purchases and construction contracts for the work within the approved budget.
