Rooftop Cinema Club will reopen in a new home this month, moving from the Gaslamp Quarter to Little Italy.
Its new location will be atop Porto Vista Hotel at 1835 Columbia St. The cinema club will also move one floor higher, going from the fourth floor at the Manchester Grand Hyatt to the fifth floor at the boutique hotel.
Rooftop Cinema Club is part of a chain that includes venue locations in Houston, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami. In San Diego, it shows popular recent movies (but not debuting titles) most nights afternoons and evenings of the week, often presenting them in tune with holiday or cultural themes such as Halloween, Pride Month and Juneteenth.
“We’re extremely excited to become part of the fabric of Little Italy and bring the joy of film and escapism to one of San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhoods,” said a statement from Gerry Cottle Jr., founder of the Rooftop Cinema Club brand.
A grand opening will take place on Feb. 26 with a showing of “La La Land.” Other movies on the schedule for upcoming weeks at Rooftop Cinema Club’s new location include “Pretty Woman,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “50 First Dates” and “The Greatest Showman.” A mini-marathon of “Gossip Girl” episodes will be shown on March 3.
Ticket prices will not change from one venue to the other, said an announcement from Rooftop Cinema Club. A full lineup of show times and more information can be found at rooftopcinemaclub.com/san-diego/venue/rcc-little-italy.
