A 30-year-old Pontiac man was handed a 10-year prison sentence Monday in federal court in West Virginia for attempted possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, a crime he pleaded guilty to last June.
Aaron Dequawn Hardy, aka “Detroit J” and “John,” was also sentenced to five years of supervised release once he’s out of prison.
As stated in a news release from the Department of Justice, in 2023 police “conducted a controlled delivery” of a package to its mailing address in Huntington, West Virginia, found the package contained 2.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, and then removed the drugs before the controlled delivery. Hardy showed up at the address to retrieve the package.
Hardy was indicted in 2025 and arrested in Michigan on a federal warrant, court records show.
The sentence was issued by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers.
