A potentially deadly crash was narrowly avoided on Manning Avenue in Fresno County when a tanker driver misjudged traffic in dense fog, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

The tanker pulled into the path of an approaching Tacoma pickup truck, which was able to slow just in time thanks to reduced visibility and cautious driving, authorities said. No injuries were reported, and all involved walked away “virtually unharmed.”

CHP officials urged drivers to slow down, stay alert, and consider delaying travel in low-visibility conditions.

“If you can’t see them, they can’t see you,” the department said in a social media post, warning that unsafe speed in fog can be deadly.
