Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are putting down roots back in the U.S. 

The former talk show host, 68, and the Arrested Development alum, 53, have purchased a new home in California 14 months after they left the U.S. to live in England, PEOPLE can confirm.

“She’s not moving back to the U.S. but will continue to split her time between both the U.K. and Montecito, [Calif.],” an insider tells PEOPLE.  

A real estate source adds that the couple have also been “missing the California weather and horse scene” since relocating to the Cotswolds in November 2024, adding, “Portia loves polo and her horses.”

Locals who used to see the couple around their Cotswolds estate regularly tell PEOPLE they haven’t seen DeGeneres “in ages,” with a local pub source adding she hadn’t been in for “several months” and many thought that she had moved away. 

Another source said DeGeneres was frequently spotted out in their village over the summer, however she has not been seen since. “She always looked friendly but nobody ever approached her and it was just another celeb to them,” the insider added of DeGeneres’ previous outings. 

The couple’s latest real estate purchase comes about 14 months after DeGeneres and de Rossi left the U.S. for the English countryside in November 2024.

“Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after,” the source told PEOPLE at the time.

In July 2025, DeGeneres confirmed to the BBC that she and her wife decided to permanently move to England because of Donald Trump being re-elected as president. In addition, she’s also stated that de Rossi is an avid horse lover and that she’s “living her dream” being in the English countryside. 

Since relocating to the U.K., the couple made a home for themselves in a small Cotswolds village, with both DeGeneres and de Rossi often sharing little glimpses into their life, as well as their stunning country estate.

When the couple first arrived in England, they lived in a farmhouse that they purchased in the spring of 2024. They only resided there for a month, however, and they ended up listing it for sale for $30 million in July after extensive renovations, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time. 

The home they later lived in was better suited for de Rossi’s many animals, DeGeneres told the outlet at the time: “When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses. We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.”

DeGeneres is known to be an avid house flipper, having purchased at least 34 homes around California since the mid-2000s, including properties in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Montecito.

Of her attraction to real estate, the comedian told the WSJ in September: “It’s not that I get bored, I’m just so passionate about architecture and furniture and you can only buy a certain type of furniture for a contemporary house or a midcentury house.”
