California Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed a new judge to the Fresno County Superior Court.
The big picture:Newsom announced Monday that he has appointed David Chiappetta to serve as a judge.
Chiappetta, a Democrat, has been a partner at Perkins Coie since 2013.
Prior to that, Chiappetta was special counsel at Corrs Chambers Westgarth from 2009 to 2013 and held various other positions at other law firms in the decades prior.
He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington School of Law.
Driving the news: The vacancy that Chiappetta is filling was made when Judge Arlan Harrell was elevated to the Court of Appeal.
