Last time out: USD lost to Oregon State 78-76 in overtime at the Jenny Craig Pavilion last Saturday after leading 59-49 with 1:45 to play in regulation. Guard Adrian McIntyre came off the bench to pace the Toreros with 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Forward Assane Diop had 13 points and eight rebounds and forward Tim Moore had 11 points and seven rebounds. Guard Ty-Laur Johnson had nine points, seven assists and three steals before fouling out of a second straight game.

Toreros update: This is the only time USD will face Saint Mary’s this season. Diop has scored 80 points and pulled down 58 rebounds over eight straight starts and is now the Toreros’ leading rebounder on the season with an average of 5.1 per game. Four guards – Johnson (15.7 points per game), McIntyre (10.3), Toneari Lane (10.3) and Juanse Gorosito (10.2) – continue to lead the Toreros in scoring, although the order has changed. Diop is the only Torero averaging more than 4.0 rebounds a game. Thanks to the pressure defense provided by the guards, USD has plus differentials in steals and turnovers, plus an edge in three-point and free-throw accuracy.

Gaels update: Saint Mary’s is 12-0 at home this season. The Gaels are coming off a 73-65 loss at sixth-ranked Gonzaga last Saturday. Saint Mary’s is coached by former USD assistant Randy Bennett. Bennett, a master of international recruiting, is 581-226 in his 25th season at Saint Mary’s. Six-foot-8 junior Lithuanian forward Paulius Murauskas leads Saint Mary’s in scoring at 19.1 points a game while pulling down 7.3 rebounds a game. Sophomore guard Joshua Dent (Australia) is averaging 13.4 points a game and sophomore guard Mikey Lewis is averaging 12.8 points a game. Seven-foot-3 sophomore center Andrew McKeever is averaging 8.1 points and a team-leading 9.3 rebounds a game. The Gaels, who feature 7-foot-3, 7-1, 6-8 and 6-7 players across the front have a plus-10.3 rebound differential this season while USD has a minus-4.0 differential on the boards.
