BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County students have the opportunity to participate in a program that will help them prepare for careers in the medical field.

The Kern-AUCC Health Scholars Pathway helps student in Bakersfield’s under-served communities and guides them throughout their education from college to medical school.

The program allows students to attend Bakersfield College, continuing their education at AUCC and Morehouse School of Medicine, and then return to Kern County to work in healthcare.

Associate Dean for Academic Programs Doctor Kevin Smith and Interim President at Bakersfield College Doctor Stacy Pfluger joined ARC Bakersfield to share more details about this program.

Students are required to be a U.S. citizen or hold permanent residency in the U.S. in order to join the program.

Students must also have a 3.2 GPA or higher and be calculus eligible to be considered.

A personal statement letter and two letters of recommendation are also required to apply for the program.
