A US Marshal and an illegal immigrant were shot Tuesday in Los Angeles during an operation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to reports.
The suspect allegedly rammed into federal vehicles, prompting agents to surround and box in the immigrant’s car, according to FOX 11.

The shooting began after an ICE officer confronted the suspect’s vehicle and smashed the window with their service weapon, a law enforcement source told CNN.
While trying to grab the suspect, the agent’s weapon discharged, hitting both the suspect and a nearby deputy marshal, according to the source.
The immigrant was shot in the elbow, while a US Deputy Marshal was hit in the hand in what is purported to be a possible ricochet, the source told CNN.

Both were rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fox News.
Agents were trying to make contact with the individual as part of an immigration removal effort, CNN reported.

The shooting took place during an immigration operation involving a known gang member on East 20th Street, just south of Downtown LA, shortly before 9 a.m. local time, a DHS source told the Los Angeles Times.
The LAPD and DHS did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
