“Maypole” is term that is well-known to us, even among those people who don’t dance around the playful prop with a spring-inspired spring in their step.
And while the flower-strewn, ribbon-flutterful staple of springtime may indeed be a month-of-May sort of thing, a certain Southern California celebration starts its Renaissance-style rollicking in April.
Make that early April: The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire begins to revel, frolic, and dance around the maypole, or aprilpole, if you please, on April 4, and tickets are available for purchase now.
Along with flower-filled and fluttery things, there are jousts, jests, madrigals, and all sorts of thematic shopping spots, as well as the ever-popular Pub Crawls.
Look for “7 new pubs” at the 2026 event, which dons its crown and fairy wings each Saturday and Sunday from Easter Saturday through May 17.
Pub Crawl tickets are still “TBA” as of Feb. 4, so do keep a merry eye on the Ren Faire socials for updates (yep, those do go as fast as a steed puts hooves to ground).
Information about the ever-popular, ever-whimsical Theme Weekends are beginning to bloom, but you’ll want to check back for more information on dressing in your steampunk style or pirate-inspired togs.
Irwindale is the kingdom where all of this throwback fun bubbles and burbles, like a mystical potion simmering in an enchanted cauldron.
Tickets? What ho, anon, and forsooth, and all of the other medieval-ish terms we can muster: Clip clop to the Ren Faire site for yours.
