BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Michael Wildrick, an 83-year-old man accused of murdering his 85-year-old wife, Emma Yoconda Wildrick, in southwest Bakersfield in September 2025, was found incompetent on Wednesday to stand trial, according to the Kern County court website.

On Sept. 11, 2025, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 12000 block of Tulane Park Place. Upon arrival, they discovered Emma Wildrick with severe gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Michael Wildrick was arrested as a suspect and faced murder charges.
Court records indicate that competency hearings began in October 2025.

In March 2024, Wildrick had been arrested for allegedly refusing to leave his home and threatening to shoot officers, although no one else was in immediate danger during that incident.
Wildrick is due to appear in court in early March for a hearing regarding his placement and possible medication.
