SHAFTER, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The Shafter City Council has approved a $200,000 remodel of the former Modified Community Correctional Facility administrative office to accommodate the Shafter Police Department’s IT team.
The decision, made on Tuesday, aims to provide more space for the department, which was last remodeled in 2008.

Shafter Mayor Chad Givens emphasized the need for additional space to ensure community safety.
Local resident Margarete Acosta, a member of the Shafter Women’s Club, noted the growing need for more space due to the city’s expansion.

Another resident, Raymond Ybarra, praised the police department’s efforts, saying, “I can walk at night, and I don’t worry about anything.”

The correctional facility, closed in 2020, has been occasionally used for special events, including a haunted house in 2024. The remodel is expected to offer new opportunities for the police IT department’s growth and modernization.
