A woman was pronounced dead on the scene after a structure fire in West Berkeley. The Berkeley Fire Department responded to a call at 3:53 p.m. a fire at a duplex building on the 1300 block of Poe Street, according to BFD Deputy Fire Chief Keith May.Â
The fire was contained to one side of the duplex, where there was extensive damage to the structure. An estimation of damage is still under investigation. The other side of the duplex faces interior smoke damage.Â
The woman was brought outside the building, where paramedics were unable to resuscitate her. She was later turned over to the Berkeley Police Department and the Coroner’s Bureau of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.Â
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.Â
